The Web Poetry Corner - John William McGrath III - First Encounter

First Encounter

by

John William McGrath III

Did I see you in my dream last night?
Was that your lovely smile in my heart?
We've only just met, it seems so right
Do I have the the horse before the cart?

Why have I fallen so hard? It is so soon
I know nothing of you, it's what I feel
It's not a romantic night, it is but noon
But your gracious manner, that's so real

Your smile's all over your face and beyond
You reach into my very heart and soul
It seems I have no choice but to respond
And pray I have some virtue to extoll
