The Web Poetry Corner - John William McGrath III - Another Life

Another Life

by

John William McGrath III

I close my eyes and see beyond the veil
Sometimes I hear the voices of those beyond
I told one of his life, he feared the tale
When I revealed his family past Stix pond

Why is it that folks fear the other side?
It is our home, we're strangers in this land
People are more alive now that they've died
When we go there they lead us by the hand

This week I lived a life from 1800s to 1980
It just stayed and worked within my mind
I remembered in a casket an aged lady
From a few years ago she looked old and kind

I saw her by accident and hastened to depart
How lived I you ask? I asked the very same
It was her life I was living in my heart
One soul on hallowed eve was our's to claim
