The Web Poetry Corner - John William McGrath III - 21 Roses

21 Roses

by

John William McGrath III

I awoke in a dream, and on my pillow, 21 roses
I admired them so, where am I? I wondered
I must see more before time's door closes
Before the sands of time are plundered

So out I flew thru a picture window
Back in time to the age of Moses
An ornate Arabian tent, I should know
Find on a bed of pillows, 21 roses

This is peculiar, a past life choice?
I remember a teacher, a wizend sage
He taught you well, said a friendly voice
It was the master from the earlier age

From there we went to another planet
Where peace had reigned so long ago
Where I first met my dear wife Janet
Where our new love began to grow

Then we came back to the present day
Parametics take boxes from among hoses
Too late, the family begin to pray
On the bed someone rests, by 21 roses

From there we went to a funeral home
Someone at the body and said he dozes
I said to the master, must this soul roam?
"He knows peace," there I lie, by 21 roses
