The Web Poetry Corner - John Lampson - Shoes and Zen

Shoes and Zen

by

John Lampson

The shoes that are never worn
are still shoes
But never being worn has made them
feel worthless and lazy.
Not the old, comfortable friend
a pair of shoes should be.
So wear those shoes with pride
ye who have feet
And take comfort in the knowledge
that kindness towards the shoes
Is not unrewarded, for the shoes
are the ones who protect the feet.
