The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Docile Deliverance
They seem to have this obligation about foreign aid,
While on their own secret religious crusade they get paid,
To do good and get praised down at the United Nations,
Go to curious conventions with no explanations.
And while on their constant junkets all over the globe,
Visit kings, queens, dictators, war lords - no xenophobe,
And we’re supposed to feel happy when they appear on TV,
Pretend taxing and spending is good and we all agree.
If you’re an outsider or just one of the herd, you’re ignored,
Probably a unilingual from some far distant ward,
Your tax money is sent and spent on equalization,
Or Adscam or sent to another far distant location.
No referendums or recall or any such debate,
No term limits so they stay forever while you wait,
No proportional representation for people like you,
You’re so quiet and docile, there’s no need to review.
