The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Toronto Garbage Garbage

Toronto Garbage Garbage

James Bredin

If they incinerate garbage they might cause some smoke,
Environmentalists might all just up and croak,
Canít send it by rail to Adamís Mine at Kirkland Lake,
Because the sky might fall on those who partake.

Two hundred eighteen wheelers of garbage a day,
On 401 to Michigan, a day away,
And then itís all forgotten, all except the bill,
As taxes double and taxpayers get a chill.

And politicians love it because nothing will change,
Referendums and recall impossible to arrange,
Jobs for life if they do nothing and never think,
Stinky trucks on the road accepted with a wink.

If they close the border for some terrorist plot
What do we do with all the garbage we got?
Do they have a secret plan like most politicians?
Are we completely locked into stinky traditions?
