The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - The last Canadian Throne Speech

The last Canadian Throne Speech

James Bredin

I went to sleep during the last throne speech,
Did I miss something that they were trying to teach?
The pompous politicians pumping their propaganda,
Their international socialist collective agenda.

I heard they like to suck up at the United Nations,
Worked up about various Africans and Haitians,
View a variety of wars from a great distance,
Donít have the manpower to give any assistance.

And it seems theyíre still uptight about human rights,
They want to do something about it but not get in fights,
A white paper or a green paper will do the job,
Written by Foreign Affairs and passed to some poor slob.

That soft-power slogan will help us tippytoe,
Through the international minefield so we can lay low,
And asymmetrical federalism will do the trick,
No one knows what it really means but itís their shtick.
