The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Refugees by the Score

Refugees by the Score

James Bredin

The government is out looking for refugees,
It doesnít matter where they are, even in trees,
To bring them here from anywhere and set them up for life,
With wives and kids in housing and welfare without strife.

And help them make a claim for their refugee status,
No problem with missing background or hiatus,
Legal Aid Lawyers by the score to help them out,
Interpreters, doctors, social workers if thereís a doubt.

And those they canít find, come by themselves in large groups,
And no one asks too many questions or even says, "Oops!"
Claim their Charter rights which even terrorists can do,
It was written for "everyone" so can it be askew.
