The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Going to Africa
Going to Africa
International socialists at the United Nations,
Want English-speaking soldiers near AIDS plagued stations,
White Christian crusaders in that black Islamic land,
Fix genocide like Rwanda with a magic wand.
Like missionaries of old going to foreign places,
To show the UN flag and their sun burned faces,
But it failed in Rwanda so why should it work now?
Should our soldiers get killed in some foreign row?
Ratchet up Liberal rhetoric, holier than thou,
The naivety of this folly in the here and now,
As they manipulate the media - this small crowd,
No referendums or recall will ever be allowed.
Their UN resolution fifteen fifty six,
Caused Liberals to think that they could finally fix,
The problems in Darfur, the Sudan and maybe Chad,
Get Janjaweed soldiers for being so bad.
Liberals claim UN moral responsibility,
Lofty ideas chock a block with naivety,
Like going to Rwanda to watch and recommend,
Phone the UN but they’re closed for the weekend.
