The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Who are these Canadian Supreme Court Appointees?
Who are these Canadian Supreme Court Appointees?
The appointee process is shrouded in a cloud,
No scrutiny or questions can ever be allowed,
The present status quo has to stay forever,
‘Cause they say these judges are all quite clever.
But how would you know if you can never ask?
They could be dumb as a stick -- not up to the task,
And they do look odd dressed up in bishops’ clothes,
In long red dresses or skirts down to the floor.
And why are these judges so afraid to change?
Of anything like what the Americans arrange,
Do they have something in particular to hide?
And would it interfere with what they decide?
Are we forbidden to change anything at all?
Subservient to their secret decision and call,
Who are these people who finally get the nod?
Did they get permission to dress like that from god?
