The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Welcome to the Canadian Supreme Court
Welcome to the Canadian Supreme Court
The Laws passed in parliament may be changed in a day,
By secret appointees without a moment’s delay,
By people you don’t know where there is no debate,
Those who dress up in bishops’ clothes and rule the state.
They write their decisions that are for your own good,
These decisions that are strange and seldom understood,
Mysterious types who could have a hidden agenda,
Judicial dictatorship with no referenda.
Of course you don’t know ‘cause you’ve never been told,
Secret appointees and you’ve been left out in the cold,
Change all the laws with their left wing decisions,
Judicial dictatorship and no revisions.
Don’t discuss this even during an election,
Might show bad faith in Canadian perfection,
The next thing you’ll want, referenda and such,
And there’s no way the candidates will even touch.
