The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Quebec
Our prime ministers of course are all from Quebec,
With a death grip on Ottawa where they sign every check,
And the people in the West view this from afar,
Isolated in our autocracy - quite bizarre.
They wonít allow proportional representation,
Scandals donít count in Liberal congregation,
And you never voted once for a prime minister,
Youíre told that this is not now and never was sinister.
In nineteen eighty and in nineteen ninety five,
Separatists showed they were very much alive,
Theyíll have another referendum as well they might,
Unless Ottawa changes just to get it right.
They claim that Trudeau/Chretien Charter is nice,
Canít see writing on the wall as they roll the dice,
No referendums, recall or property rights,
Canít impeach a prime minister if he doesnít write.
Refuse to fix Canada because theyíre okay,
Politicians and appointees getting enormous pay,
Pompous patronage and cronyism have always worked,
Their billion dollar ransom had to be cloaked.
