The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Fix Canada Now, Paul
Fix Canada Now, Paul
The fault line in Confederation is Quebec,
Don’t look now ‘cause Chretien often wrote them a check,
‘Cause they had that referendum back in ninety five,
We scarcely succeeded in keeping the country alive.
And there’s that welfare called equalization payments,
Billions to buy loyalty of those Quebecois claimants,
Canadians can’t have referendums or recall,
Decisions now made by Prime Minister Paul.
And he feels indebted to the United Nations,
Every little conflict, dispute, even the Haitians,
Soldiers to Afghanistan to get bombed or shot,
-- A UN obligation whether we like it or not.
Is it possible to have systemic improvement?
Why be stuck in the status quo without movement?
When Ottawa interests conflict with the nation,
Ottawa will prevail and announce a celebration.
The political graffiti is now on the wall,
What are you going to do about it, Paul?
You should fix Canada now rather than later,
It’s a little different than fixing a freighter
