The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Canadian UN Soldiers
Canadian UN Soldiers
Are our soldiers over in Afghanistan still?
Are we still paying that colossal UN bill?
Are we involved in a war about something over there?
Is there one of those pajama guys who really cares?
And will they send us to Africa soon for drill?
Like Rwanda ten years ago or are they killing still?
Or some other dingy place that no one heard of yet,
Thirty wars in thirty years is plenty you bet.
Those ongoing wars in those god forsaken places,
Pictures in the papers of those many starving faces,
Socialist activists want the UN involved,
Can’t remember what Canadians in Rwanda solved.
‘Cause thirty wars in thirty years of guns and whips,
Governments, dictators and helicopter gun ships,
Rebels and armies into genocide ethnic cleansing,
They all want us over there into fence mending.
Desperately screaming human rights to UN fools,
No referendums or recall because the UN rules,
But stop; they signed a truce again just yesterday,
They’re all coming to Canada so everything’s okay.
