The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - The Toronto Bridge
The Toronto Bridge
Toronto politicians will pay twice for a bridge that’s not there,
Enough to scare the living daylights out of the few who care,
It’s only our money, though we’ll pay twice as much for the lawyer’s bill,
And we’ll pay twice the taxes to get nothing - that’s right - zero - nil.
Are you getting the message yet as they tell us why they’re so good,
And deny that there’s anything wrong with this and you understood,
As they send our garbage a thousand miles to the United States,
Three hundred trucks loads on the four o one at extraordinary rates.
Is the logic of this lost to politicians or are they dumb?
Is it possible to lead people to hell and not appear glum?
Will the people get what they deserve because of this election?
Why are we the people then trapped, bogged down by our selection?
Why can’t we have a system to get out of this frustration?
Referendums, term limits, recall or proportional representation,
Why should they have us locked down for years in their stupid status quo?
Disciplined, obedient subservient and told to kowtow.
