The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - The Saga of Shawinigan

The Saga of Shawinigan

by

James Bredin

If one can pick the judge can one break the rules?
Or is it all just a pantomime for those other dudes?
What would judges do to repay such an appointment?
Surely they would never be a disappointment.

And the appointed mountie and the ethics guy,
The system is solid; they would never go awry,
Can we eliminate scandal with a snap election?
Did Canada have protection in that infection?

If one can lie about the GST, can one still get elected?
Can Canada do all this and still and not be affected?
Without term limits can Canada say amen?
Needs a legacy or appointment at the UN.

Can one do nothing if his friends lie about George Bush?
At what point in all this does defiance comes to push?
The Americans at war singing hail to their chief,
While we’ve got mad cow disease and we can’t sell our beef.
