The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - The Canadian Elite

The Canadian Elite

by

James Bredin

Who are these new lords of the manor?
Pictured in the papers standing by a banner,
Proud as punch this particular bunch,
Pin medals on each other during lunch.

Their titles and awards would fill a book,
New gentry showing off so take a look,
Singing anthem in English and Vichy French,
Show their education that never held a wrench.

I can almost hear the clicking-glasses sound,
Smiling tuxedos and long black evening gowns,
The order of merit with ribbon round the neck,
I should have more respect but what daheck.
