The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Chretien's Last Farewell

Chretien's Last Farewell

by

James Bredin

George Bush reduces taxes and Chretien gets mad
Says this is not a good idea and itís very very sad,
He prefers to tax and spend in the usual Liberal way
Social programs for "everyone" in the world they say

Chretienís worried about the US intentions and arrears
This from one who said heíd cancel the GST but leers
With our $600 billion national debt and his Shawinigan nest
One third of our taxes to pay interest - nothing off our chest

This from one not elected prime minister by the public
Unlike George Bush next-door in the big American Republic
This from one who refused to help George out in Iraq
Bobbing and weaving with a legacy of Iím-all-right-Jack
