The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - An old maid in a garret

An old maid in a garret

by

James Bredin

I know an old lady, who is still a virgin at sixty nine,
Couldn’t keep a man when she was younger but now she thinks its fine,
Been to Jerusalem twice because that’s in the Holy Land,
Saw three different popes and thought that was just so grand.

Goes to mass twice on Sundays so she’s bound to get to heaven,
Goes to the confraternity every Tuesday evening at seven,
Of course now, no one can remember when she was a young beauty,
She couldn’t contemplate lust or sin then because of religious duty.
