The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Shawinigan

Shawinigan

by

James Bredin

The people of Shawinigan all feel very proud,
That the economy of the area is so well endowed,
They got more money from Ottawa than all of the West,
They say itís the prime minister but surely you jest,
Theyíre going to build a monument or maybe a museum,
Another golf course, a hotel or could be a mausoleum.

Theyíve ran out of things to do with all the money they get,
So much money, itís said, could pay down the national debt,
And it all came their way from a few government grants,
Coincidental at that time they were shouting Liberal chants,
And if you have an opportunity to go and see this place,
Itís not the ethics guy, the RCMP or a national disgrace.
