The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Dandelions

Dandelions

by

James Bredin

If you think about it, the dandelion is a beautiful flower,
Bright and yellow haired with no need for a bower,
Waving in the sunlight of a warm spring day,
Capable of growing anywhere - even in clay.

Its not bothered by the snow, the cold or the frost,
By global warming, carbon monoxide or even car exhaust,
And its edible for those seeking health and so inclined,
And has been eaten for centuries by most of mankind.

The beautiful dandelion does not deserve bad publicity,
By the lawn guys with the chemicals involved in complicity,
That more chemicals are needed to pour on the lawns,
To kill all the dandelions and show were like pawns.
