The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Chretien and Mugabe
Chretien and Mugabe
Chretien backed Mugabe at the Commonwealth meetings,
Despite rigged elections, killings, beatings and cheatings,
Interfered with sanctions to let his friend stay in power,
While Mugabe's Zimbabwe descended by the hour.
Strike a Commonwealth committee to delay and comprehend,
Can’t have Mugabe sanctioned; after all he’s a friend,
And what’s another rigged election; it’s done all the time,
By force or with money or by organized crime.
And now Zimbabwe is stalked by famine and starvation,
Amid communist celebrations they deny all desolation,
But they'll accept African donations from Canadian friends,
As they dive around Zurich in their Mercedes Benz.
And at the G8 meeting they’ll line up crying and lying,
Bet on billions - remorse money for Zimbabwe’s dying,
It's only taxpayers' money - socialists never care,
They'll spend and strut their stuff to manipulate African despair.
