The Web Poetry Corner - James Bredin - Canadian Dictatorship
When the Auditor General looks at the books,
And finds that our politicians are frequently crooks,
And then makes an announcement and gets in print,
You would think that Canadians would take the hint.
That our politicians manipulate money,
For friends and relatives who think itís funny,
And without, referendums or Criminal Code,
Conflict of Interest is within their workload.
The RCMP and the ethics guy said so,
Their appointments depend on what they may know,
And they know that this will be dead in two days,
Media and majority publicity haze.
No rules or integrity for those on the public tab,
Who travel the world on the taxpayersí pad,
Charging Canadians for this and for that,
While they and their relatives grow big and fat.
And its hidden and buried by the Access Act,
Obscure, contracts for cronies, concealed and stacked,
This legacy of larceny should send us a sign,
That our 60-cent dollar could soon be a dime.
Why is Canadian democracy so slow?
No input from citizens because they donít know,
Why are the people so docile and dumb?
Why do they remain so quiet and mum?
