The Web Poetry Corner - J. M. Hallett - The Runaway

The Runaway

by

J. M. Hallett

He gazed into that shallow pool
That lavish plaza fountain
To see several hundred
Shimmering silver wishes
And one by one
He took those little dreams
And he stuffed his pockets
'Til his pants were soaked
That abused young runaway
Newly arrived in the city
Desperate, hungry and broke
