The Web Poetry Corner - Helen Paquin - Hearts Not Hugging

Hearts Not Hugging

by

Helen Paquin

He sold her heart
He sold it cheap
Like pennies for a song
So often in looking back
Some see, too late,
They were wrong

He tried to find
The heart he sold
To mend it
As soft as before
He only found
To increasing sorrow
A cold hard bolted door

He sold her heart
For pennies
On a foolish whim
He sold her heart
Her heart is gone-
How can she
Give it to him?
