An Instinct

We’re all born
With natural instincts,
And we must exercise these
So they won’t become extinct.

Aside from natural instincts
There are some that we learn,
And from these kind of instincts
There are some things that we earn.

Love, trust,
And a place in life,
These are all things we earn
Through strife.

Instincts exist
In our hearts and minds,
And they come in forms
Of many different kinds.

From all of my instincts
There’s one thing I’ve learned to do,
And that one thing is simply
Knowing how to love you.
