The Web Poetry Corner - Hay Machine - Slemish Road

Slemish Road

by

Hay Machine

(in loving memory of Eileen Browne)

Burke and Neary built them small
along the short straight road to the graveyard wall
where Oxmantown and Castleknock
came to meet at Mooney's lock
there to breed a freckled flock
of white-skinned Christian and compliant stock

Number seventeen
crucible of dreams
my mother's loom
all of us spun by her hand
and love-woven
