Reality isn't Everything

Jimmy Cook is torched with a head full of mathematics
frying algebra like chopped onions
so that he cannot sleep until a resolution is uncoiled
a value for the moment found for X
I told him how I lived my life
(and according to my present wife)
that everything I do and say
is only partly hinged on what is termed reality
Find a value for X such that
all other variables are equal to zero
it must be zero too although I see he said
relativity itself at present is stood upon its head
and time might not exist the lot defying gravity as well
as we have come to sheepishly accept it
Happiness I did contend was sometimes equal like the rest to zero
reality a bottle from whose care a drink of promise is decanted
can smash or carried to a dump lie desolate and never be enchanted
whereas a friend who screeches with a wildness on your flying carpet
holding upwards its edges for cornering around life's golden onion domes
holds the secret to a life filled at least to just above the plimsoll
and when wine spills into the path of a runaway delight
life's labour time gravity itself finds a value for X
that is not equal to zero
