of a long lost land
grey herringbone'd coat
with a black velvet band

Mine-seam of decency
brave stroke of pen
leader of leaders
most thoughtful of men

Poor Arthur Griffith
with one pair of shoes
all things to live for
and no time to lose

Besieged in his office
and slept in a press
wrapped in a coat
he just couldn't undress

He died on a landing
I visit this place
no marker reminds us
of Arthur no trace

A cenotaph stone
with a flame-tip of gold
he shares with his General
their greatness be told
