The single ant enlarged
so that with bulging eyes open dripping jaw and hairy skinless legs
it terrifies the homely town
each step taken
crushes cars crumbles pavements and breaks the cobbled street
it shakes the buildings mangles girders brings them down to rubble-dust
destruction like Hiroshima
complete
Plucking little women with headscarves skyward
kicking
in their tiny stilletoes
belted coats and lipstick
up the empire state
for a last stand
embracing the antenna
The poet with his magnifying pen
reeks havoc with the situation when
with the speed of thought
he summons up a thousand diamond-studded horses
from the Kremlin basement
and consumes them all (bar one)
to fill a hole
in a passing moment
