Coronation Street

Hay Machine
(dah da da da-da dah)
Ken Barlow more reassuring than loved ones
at least he will be there at seven thirty without fail
all served up in two-minute mouthfuls
Kevin's tedium and Martin's questionable love for Gail
The Rovers a common place to read a common face
Betty's bloody hotpot and the poorest ale
everything in side-door green
two cheese butties and a mug of tea please Gail
Mike the fool to let his Alma down
compensated for the present that unending tale
Curley Watts watching life on other planets
here we go again more grief for slowly ageing Gail
Rita and Vera Duckworth the two grannies no one has these days
like human canal barges driven on by sail
quietly moving-on laden with experience
rasher sausage egg and beans please Gail
But what about the life and times of Leslie Battersby
the Homer Simpson in us all that dares itself to rail
not flaymin likely this unlikely hero of our time
go on Martin give that nurse the shove and reconcile yourself with Gail
