The Web Poetry Corner - Hay Machine - Christmas Day 1999

Christmas Day 1999

by

Hay Machine

Hardly clever
there are no boundaries
between
art history and human endeavour
no fence
except the barb
rolled out
in our defence
the negative prerogative
all we cannot do

The dividend of time
is choice
the option of old age
a range
from love to rage

On the wide prairies
of the mind
every thought can graze
no need for beast to wait
for farmer or his wife
to open gate

Determination is a dream
filling from the intellect
better let to roam
forwards and backwards
until it finds itself
forever
connected
art
history
and human endeavour
