The Web Poetry Corner - Hay Machine - Bill

Bill

by

Hay Machine

When bad news lands and eats your gilt veneer
we play the voyeur with your panic and your fear
it's not our turn to kiss a decomposing friend
or graveyard dressed experience inevitable end

Candidate with silk rosette on first election night
family friends advisers threre in public woven tight
juices flow and fill the eye where now there is a drought
reward and pleasure must be cherished when they are about

All the great ones dead and fallen slipped from finest hours
nature life and competition's cruel destructive powers
giving birth that moment is the essence of this world
in time disease and genes will twist the straightest epic curled
all that we can do is pray and act distinguished part
bow out before they cut your hide rip-out your precious heart
or cancer strikes and hope descends
your skin dries-up your shoulder bends
they find your DNA near cashier's till
arise!
with intellect alone strike back invent the next day's drill

All living things fall low and have an end
the raindrop falling from its meadow perch allows the grass unbend
continue nervous-one perform and take your light
it might be evening but it's long before your dreaded breathless night
