The Web Poetry Corner - Hay Machine - Anglo-Irish Ireland

Anglo-Irish Ireland

by

Hay Machine

Dublin's brick-lined Georgian Squares
canals and port and thoroughfares
Grattan's place in College Green
Gandon's bookend buildings
lustrous lived-in houses
necklaced in between

Guinness and their homes near Porterstown
a thousand country houses some without renown
Norman castles in ivy sunset dressed
landscape crafted kissed and worked
nature light architect and artist blessed

Swift Wilde Shaw Yeats and Lavery
their very names wrought from imagery
so much of what we have to call inheritance
our finest cocktail
the roused peasant burned
deliver us from this inclination
and our determined ignorance
