Not Here, But Now
by

Let me not skip any rocks
so that I may open my eyes
plunging down
gliding out
we come of hard times with
our best color
the French flag does share so
much of that red, white and blue
all of it sinking out of the same
multicoloered pen
I have skipped rocks
and now see the broken, muddy
remains of hope lying beside
the road
they stare at me though I am patriotic
nature must still be mixed with us
scotch tape isn't the only thing holding this
map of America up anymore
music on the checker board
I feel like I've done this before
yellow icicles dance as a scream
of fear retreats and wonder flys
let me not skip any rocks
so that I may open my eyes
open my eyes to the world
