The Urbanization of Albany
by
Fred Mason
Where once fields of apples and strawberries lay.
Where families picknicked and chrildren did play.
Where under summer sun and harvest under way.
Memories of that country life have not gone away.
Now there are bitumen promenades.
Threading their way with houses, shops and pollution haze.
Traffic lights, roundabouts are here and there.
Buildings made of slabs of concrete stand were...
...Once cows did forage in pastures serene.
And of a different future folk could dream.
