The Web Poetry Corner - Fred Mason - The Prognosis

The Prognosis

by

Fred Mason

"I've got bad news for you."Said Dr Sweet.
"The results have come through and things look pretty bleak".
"How long have i got?"Asked Mr.Twee.
The doctor answered."You'll be dead tomorrow at a quarter-past three."

Mr Twee said ."I'm out of here.Got things to do and places to see."
Out of the surgery he raced."Ive got places to do and things to be."
He was in so much of a fluster he did'nt know his left from his right.
"I've got to get organised so i can deal with my plight."

Panic set in.his heart pounded so fast. One leg went this way, whil'st the other went that way.
He looked at his watch.Time remaining.Exactly one day.
"Things i've always wanted to do."He mused.
Ideas raced madly in his mind. But he could'nt get enthused.

Then as if,in a calm in a storm.
A brilliant idea was born.
He punched the bully that used to bully him at school.
He threw paint over the teacher that called him a fool.

"It's payback time,"He said with glee.
"I'll get my own back on everbody that annoyed me."
He spent nearly the rest of his life getting even with old foes.
"Why did'nt i do this before,goodness knows."

Soon after that he was so tired that he fell asleep on the floor.
All that exercise. All that effort. He could'nt stay awake any more.
He awoke only to find it was a quarter to seven.
"I'm either on borrowed time ,or i'm in heaven.

The next day Mr.Twee went back to the surgery.
"It' well after a quarter past three and i'm still alive you see."
"There's been a bit of a mix up in the lab.A bit of a upset."
"Your not going to die.Upon that note ihave no regret."
