The Web Poetry Corner - Fred Mason - Christmas Eve.
Christmas Eve.
by
Fred Mason
On little Teddy-Bear toe's she crept down the hall.
(A month or two ago she could only crawl.)
She stood in the doorway and looked in awe.
A Christmas Tree with lights and decorations she saw.
The perfume from the pine branch filled the air.
A bottle of beer and Christmas mince-pie on a plate by the chair.
The lounge had been changed into an Aladdin's Cave.
She would always remember the special feeling that the room gave.
Suddenly she heard a noise comming from the fireplace.
An expression of fear crossed here anxious little face.
"Mummy...Was all she could say.All she could call.
Trembling with fear she helter-skeltered down the hall.
"Darling don't be frightened you'll be safe with me".Her Mum said.
As she tucked her little one back into bed.
Dad checked out the lounge to see what made the commotion.
"It's that possum back again dear".he said with relieved emotion.
