The Web Poetry Corner - Francis Duggan - untitled

untitled

by

Francis Duggan

I search for meaning in my life but meaning I can't find
It's just like chasing shadows through the meadows in the
wind
My boss is off on holidays out cruising with his wife
And I wake at dawn to work for him there must be more to
life?.

I'm one of those who have helped to make that man a
millionaire
And yet for those who work for him he does not seem to care
If I quit this job tomorrow there will be one to take my
place
He will find another labourer to fill the vacant space.

There's surely more to life than this there must be an
easier way
Than working for a wealthy man to earn an honest pay
Perhaps in a few years from now the boss to me will say
You must make way for a younger man you've seen your better
day.

My boss is off on holidays out cruising with his wife
And I wake at dawn to work for him there must be more to
life
I'm one of those who have helped to make that man a
millionaire
And yet for those who work for him he does not seem to care.
