The Web Poetry Corner - Francis Duggan - The timid and the brave

The timid and the brave

by

Francis Duggan

I know a woman she is scared of spiders
But in deep and dangerous waters she will swim
And I know a non swimmer he's scared of water
And spiders never seem to worry him.

I know a sturdy tree felling tree climber
And he will climb to top of tallest tree
But he will cringe in fear and keep safe distance
Whenever nest of bull ants he will see.

I've heard about this great and brave bull fighter
So much in demand he can name his price
But even the bravest in some ways found wanting
And this bull fighter is petrified of mice.

I've heard about this famed and champion boxer
In fifty contests he has not been beat
But at the sight of a yapping Chihuahua
He feels a bit unsteady on his feet.

The bravest in some ways can be found wanting
From ant or small dog they will turn and flee
And the woman who is petrified of spiders
Is brave enough to swim in dangerous sea.
