The Web Poetry Corner - Francis Duggan - The quiet achiever

The quiet achiever

by

Francis Duggan

If you don't judge and can accept other people
Irrespective of their creed or of their race
And help out others without expecting reward
Then you can make this world a better place.

What does it matter if you are low in the social order
If to the higher principles you live true
If you can only help and never hinder
Then others have a role model in you.

The world is better for you living in it
Though you may never make the news headlines
You go through life one of the quiet achievers
And in your heart the light of goodness shines.

The billionaire sits in his sunlit garden
But he looks sad and he's not free of care
Perhaps his billion would make him quite happy
If he could only learn how to share.

You help the poor old woman on a pension
You mow her grass and you paint her garden gate
And you only charge her what she can afford to pay you
For one so humble you are truly great.

You go through life the humble quiet achiever
And you sow the seeds of kindness on your way
And in helping others you reap your own karma
And all good things will come to you one day.
