The Web Poetry Corner - Francis Duggan - The Sunflowers

The Sunflowers

by

Francis Duggan

The sunflower petals open to the sunshine
So tall and graceful and lovely to behold
Seen at their best in prime months of the summer
One can't mistake them in their blooms of gold.

The sunflowers in full bloom are things of beauty
Some of them even over five foot tall
And of all the prety flowers that bloom in summer
The sunflowers are the loveliest of all.

By well known artists sunflowers have been painted
Some marvellous paintings of them i recall
But the flower that blooms so lovely in the summer
Will sadly lose her beauty to the fall.

Some people like roses and others like geraniums
And some like the flowers on the camellia tree
And some like marigold and rhododendrons
But the sunflower still the number one for me.

The sunflowers bloom in the warm days of summer
Their beauty never fails to catch the eye
The butterflies are flitting in the garden
And the sun is brightly shining in the sky.
