The Web Poetry Corner - Francis Duggan - A product of the society we live in

A product of the society we live in

by

Francis Duggan

It had been said he was on the road to nowhere
But the road to nowhere always has an end
And his body was found cold on a park bench
He had died poor and alone and without a friend.

A product of the society we live in
What happens to the poor not many care
The old man who was found cold on the park bench
Had died from head wound blood matted his gray hair.

Murdered by a low life type for a few dollars
Some people look on human life as cheap
His murderer must pay for his act of cowardice
His date with 'karma' he's obliged to keep.

It has been said that all human beings are equal
But that's not so as everybody know
And inequality today is still as rampant
As it was many centuries ago.

The poor old fellow found dead on the park bench
His remains now resting in the paupers ground
He was buried by the salvation army
And not a friend or relative around.

In life so many saw him as a failure
And he was one who did not have a friend
But may he rest in peace the poor old fellow
For surely he deserved a better end.
