The Web Poetry Corner - Estel Sowell - City III

City III

by

Estel Sowell

The city
Eager to lash out
Ignoring her inferiority
Cashes in on the weak
But spends her wealth unwisely
She hungers
Starving for affection
Knowing niether love nor hate
She fails to feed
Rabid with fear and confusion
She stalks anyone anything
Wanting of love she can't understand
She screams in agony
Her pain subsides a little
But only a short time
As those horrible memories come back
Time after time
She searches for her identity
But finds nothing for her efforts
She tries to copy others
But fails miserably
Confused she won't reach inside
Her heart to find the answer
But her hunger won't let her stop
Weary and full of sorrow
She tries to give in to the pain
But life's reality won't let her
When will it end she cries
In the end replies a voice
She closes her eyes
Finding some peace
She sleeps
