The Web Poetry Corner - Estel Sowell - City II

City II

by

Estel Sowell

The city
In all her splendor
Reaks of curruption
Blinded by indifference
Her decaying frame
Sees nothing wrong
Monolyths
Monuments to her glory
Stand on clay feet
Crumbling
The streets harbor all forms
Of malignancy
Drugs
Murder and mayhem
Prostitution
Hunger
Pestulence
To name a few
People within her walls
Are dying
Plagued by the cancer
Of hate
Oblivious to her destruction
She strives to reach out
But weakened by her sin
The city cries
No one hears
No one cares
Gasping for air
Choking on her pollution
She suffocates
She dies
