Yuletide Memories

It was a clear cold evening when we all drew near and warmed ourselves around the blazing campfire light.
The sky above frowned angrily on our little gathering as another snow storm threatened.
All around us the trees were blanketed in layers of shimmering white
Each one there that night shared stories of past holidays that had gone before. Some were sad and touching
others were happy and warmed our hearts, others were funny, and yet others still were heroic in their retelling.
Every yarn we heard was spun with such detail that we could almost picture ourselves there.
Then suddenly someone produced a bow and fiddle and using a tree stump as a makeshift chair they sat down
and began to play softly the melody from silent night....the carole so loved for its beautiful simplicity.
While everyone there
sang along, the faint scent of hickorysmoke lingered in the still air.
As the song ended we all partook from one final cup of holiday cheer. Then, looking up....I saw a star rushing thru the darkness.
As I followed it's flight I closed my eyes and made a lingering wish that I might be home again in time for Christmas.
