Whimsical Flights
by
Dwayne Pagnotto
Once as I knelt awestruck before the glorious throne of the Sun
He withheld his full gaze from me, always looking up when he spoke
But occasionally he would greet me with smiles of warm benevolence.
When he did in my mind I could feel him leading me back
To the gentle wonderworld of seaspray and sandy beaches.
As we stood there upon the misty shores of my imagination
We beheld exquisite seashells scattered everywhere.
Then my divine host wishing to be gracious
Showed me friendly and subtle displays of his power.
He created glittering castles from a single grain of sand.
As I beheld this amazing sight he directed my attention to the sky
From whence flew birds of rosey light.
Then pointed he towards to sea
From whence sprang liquidy translucent fish of blue.
As I gazed on they flew over to me and began to circle over my head.
Slowly at first, but then they whirled around ever faster
Till they finally came together in a dazzling explosion
Which left vibrant rainbows hanging in the air.
Then attempting to catch one I ran into the sea
Where there appeared to me out of thin air a cloudy chariot.
I stood there gazing at it....unsure.
Then I looked over at the shining god
As he grinned, arms folded
And nodded his consent.
As I climbed in it took me ever higher
Showing me visions both heavenly and surreal.
Stars of light littered my pathway
Thru the blue sky dome.
I gazed upon the kingdom of the gods
Haloed by the zodiac
And lesser deities.
But then at some point I fell out
And plunged headlong into a dried-up riverbed
