The Web Poetry Corner - Dwayne Pagnotto - Unremembered

Unremembered

by

Dwayne Pagnotto

What befell the towering monolith?
At the top of the hill verge.

In calm silence
In the dead of moon pale
He lay peacefully
In forgetful dust.

His broken stone hand lay by him
Clutching a shattered sword.

I stare into his woefully distant eyes
Then wonder.

Had he won his ancient battle?

Did this statue erected to some mighty warrior king of old
Ever emerge from his fight with the overpowering sense of victory?

I think not.

For Time, it seems
Had bested him.

Yet limped away wounded
And unforgiving.

NEXT?
Why don't you look at Brightness
