The Web Poetry Corner - Dwayne Pagnotto - Unaltered Endings

Unaltered Endings

by

Dwayne Pagnotto

The blind prospects of change are in the air.

Like a dusty wind
Blowing thru a sleepy ghost town

Awakening dead legends there.

Forgotten now and forsaken
They roam aimlessly thru the streets.

Drifting in and out of saloons
And jaihouses

Looking for reminders of the old days.
Still trying to buy happiness
With fool's gold.

Outside a boarded up motel
There's a sign that reads:

"Welcome. Free Rooms For Rent
To Lonely Spirits.
Please Check Your Pain At The Door
And Go Inside"

Within an abandoned bar room
Are the phantom sounds
Of voices, coins jingling
shattered glasses and gun shots

As the shades
Of former outlaws
Sit around and play cards
Tell stories

And whisper words
Into the ears of the living.

What do they say?

They tell us to wind back the clocks
To recapture the glory of yesteryear

Before the past can catch up to us.

NEXT?
Why don't you look at This Place
