The Loser's Prize

The herd drinks from the well
Till lonliness fades
In the pale light of reason.

A pitiful excuse for fulfillment.

Does it matter?

As the monster courts the maiden
And wins her affection
With a single gesture.

Then a dream of happiness
Draws near
Yet still unapproachable

As time embraces all possiblities
Then mercifully withdraws all chance of hope.
